What is a volcano?
A volcano is a mountain that contains a pool of magma below. When pressure builds up it can explode.
A volcano can be:
· Active – it is erupting.
· Dormant – it is sleeping and waiting to erupt one day.
· Extinct – it used to be a volcano but not any more.
Are there active volcanoes in New Zealand?
Yes, they are all in the North Island.
